52nd Annual FIHA Powwow

We welcome one and all to the 52nd Annual Florida Indian Hobbyist Association (FIHA) Powwow at the St Lucie County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierce, Florida the weekend of March 24th.
Our powwow chairman Dr. Rich Conway has dedicated our theme for this year to ‘Returning to Our Traditions,’ our goal is to return the FIHA powwow to the traditions of years gone by.
Come out for a great weekend of dancing, drumming, awesome vendors and fellowship; as we all learn more about the Native American culture.
This year we will be showcasing Gourd Dancing on Sunday morning, a Tipi Village and competition, a craft competition, princess competition, Saturday midnight auction, authentic Native American food, over 20 high quality vendors, and a kids area. We will also have an authentic living museum set up by region to educate the public about the Native American history and lives.
We have many other special guests who will be in attendance including:
Ed Winddancer will regaling us with his phenomenal flute playing
Susan Sanford, (Seneca) will be entertaining young and old with her expert story telling
Grupo de Danza, ‘Tioke Nahuake’ Aztec Dancers will be displaying their art of the Aztec dance.
Jody Gaskin, Sault Ste. Marie (Chippewa) will be performing the hoop dances and song.
Returning this year will be our fire dancers Walter (Dutchee) Arnett and Jordan Davis from the Hitchiti Dance Society.
The Hitchiti Dancers from Tequesta, Florida, who is a Native American interpretive dance group will be performing their show dances.
Gates open on Friday March 24, 2016 at 3:00PM, and 10:00AM both Saturday and Sunday.
Camping is available: Tent Camping is $15.00 per person and full hook-up RV sites are $25.00 per night. Please RSVP at [email protected]

www.silverhawkflutegathering.com Withlacoochee River Park:Opens 9:00 am. Opening ceremony Saturday at 10:00 am. Closes 6:00 pm. Sunday opening ceremony at 10:00 am closes at 5:00 pm. $2.00 per vehicle for admission and parking. There is a county park fee for camping and electric. There is also R.V. camping and facilities. Vendors, crafts, Native American style flutes, blankets, Painted Ponies, Native American food, home made ice cream, flavored Indian corn pop corn (etc). Nonstop entertainment all weekend (flute players, story tellers, singers, didge players, (etc.), 1800s settlement, trails thru the woods along the river with observation tower. Saturday evening “Friendship Fire” (flute playing, drumming, singing, story telling, fellowship), Sunday, Native American worship with "Sacred Thunder Drum" at 11:30 am till 12:00 noon. A grassroots gathering in the country. Camping on the grounds. Primitive camping free. Motels 15 min away in Dade City and Zephyr Hills. A family event, No Drugs or Alcohol allowed! Come join us for a wonderful day or the whole weekend. This is a gathering, a music event. I have been told this is one of the friendliest events around.
