Manito Ahbee Festival postpones May dates for 2020.
TREATY ONE TERRITORY, MB. The Manito Ahbee Festival will be postponing its anticipated dates of May 13-17, 2020. The festival has been tentatively rescheduled for August 27-30, 2020, taking place at Red River Exhibition Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
“We are very concerned about the health of our nations and to ensure we are taking all the necessary precautions and proper measures, postponement of the festival is vital,” said Lisa Meeches, Executive Director of Manito Ahbee.
The Manito Ahbee Festival is excited to celebrate its 15th year! Each year, the festival welcomes people of all nations to its signature events: Kick-Off & Lighting of the Sacred Fire, International Pow Wow, Indigenous Marketplace and Trade Show, Getting Jiggy With It (honouring the Metis traditions with a square dance exhibition and jigging competition), the Live Art Painting Challenge, and the Spirit Visions Film Festival and Competition. The Indigenous Music Awards and music conference are on hiatus until 2021 as previously announced.
In addition to festival favourites, the Manito Ahbee Festival will produce a variety show entitled, “The Drum Calls Us All”. This even will showcase musical performances, Pow Wow dance styles, and many other surprises.
The Manito Ahbee Festival will continue to monitor the current and future environment with safety and wellness at the core of delivering this year’s festival.
“We look forward to seeing all our relations when we celebrate in the heart of Turtle Island,” said Meeches.
