31st ANNUAL HOWARD COUNTY, MARYLAND WHISPERING WINDS POW-WOW AND SHOW SCHEDULED FOR JULY 13-14, 2024: IN SIDE- RAIN or SHINE (Exhibition Hall)

Hollister, NC- Pow-Wow, an American Indian owned and operated company, will sponsor the 31st annual Howard County Whispering Winds Pow-Wow/American Indian Show and Festival on July 13-14, 2024 at the Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship, Maryland. (The Howard County Fairgrounds–2210 Fairground Road West Friendship, MD  21794)  The pow-wow is an opportunity for the public to interact with American Indian dancers, singers, drummers, artists and crafts persons.  Also, this event is an attempt by Pow-Wow to educate the public about American Indians, past and present, through the arts.  

Gates open at 10:00AM on Saturday and Sunday for early shoppers.

Fun activities for children and adults include dance interaction and face painting, (birds of prey, petting zoo and pony rides, weather permiting), canvas painting, beadwork and dreamcatcher making.

The event will kick off with a parade of nations (grand entry) at 12:00 noon.  Native American Dancers in regalia (American Indian outfits) will dance/drum daily.    

Members of the Haliwa-Saponi, Piscataway, Rappahannock, Cherokee, Sioux, Iroquois, Lumbee, and Navajo are a few of the Tribes that will participate this year.

Some of the finest Native American crafts will be available.  Items for sale include fine art turquoise jewelry, moccasins, beadwork, rugs, books, paintings, and more.

Buffalo stew, Indian fry bread, Indian tacos, Indian corn soup, and buffalo burgers are just a few of the Native American food items that will be on sale at the event. American fare, such as hot dogs, hamburgers will be sold as well.
