The first WHPP was held in 1988 on the NDSU campus to honor the American Indian graduates and celebrate spring. Since that first year, the pow wow has been rotated between the college campuses each year.

The purpose of the annual pow wow is to honor the graduates, celebrate the American Indian culture, and to provide a sense of pride in the American Indian heritage. The pow wow is a collaboration of college students and staff/faculty from each of the four campuses and area community members. These members attend the planning meetings, volunteer for sub-committees and help on the day of the event.

Our pow wow was one of the best attended cultural events in the Fargo-Moorhead area last year; the auditorium was filled with spectators for both grand entries. We are expecting over 2,500 people to participate in this year’s traditional powwow.
