Mission: Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits (BAAITS) exists to restore and recover the role of Two-Spirit people within the American Indian/First Nations community by creating a forum for the spiritual, cultural and artistic expression of Two-Spirits and Indigiqueers.
Organizational Description
BAAITS is a community-based volunteer organization offering culturally relevant activities for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Native Americans, their families and friends. Two-Spirit refers to the commonly shared notion among many Native American tribes that some individuals naturally possessed and manifested both a masculine and feminine spiritual qualities. American society commonly identifies Two-Spirit People as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgender.
Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits comes together to socialize, share and network in an alcohol and drug-free environment. BAAITS sees itself as an organization for Two-Spirit people to explore their rich heritage in a safe environment. To that end, BAAITS is committed to offering culturally relevant activities for LGBT individuals of Native American ancestry and their families and friends.
BAAITS largest program is our annual Two-Spirit Pow Wow. At this Pow Wow all Two-Spirit identified Native American, American Indian, and 2SLGBTQI people and their allies from all over the Americas get a chance to come together to celebrate culture, build community, and express themselves. The BAAITS Pow Wow was the world’s first public Two-Spirit Pow Wow and we are now the world’s largest.
The BAAITS Two Spirit Pow Wow is modeled after a traditional Oklahoma style Pow Wow and is an intertribal event that also invites non-Native guests to experience Native cultures. On the day of and the months leading up to the event, we have contact with thousands of people who identify as Two- Spirit, American Indian, accomplices and allies.
Our annual Two-Spirit Pow Wow, is a place where participants feel “ohno cochico,” community love or the way that one feels when they are amongst their tribe. It is a place where we can truly restore and reclaim the role of Two-Spirit people. We do this through cultural expression, getting back in touch with our culture, and ceremony.
Our annual Pow Wow engages with younger generations: Indigenous people who grew up in urban environments and those who are raised on reservations and gives them the opportunity to learn more about native identity, how tradition and culture can shape one’s life, restoring, and returning to the sacred circle.

I would like to take my children to their first Pow Wow and experience it first hand. Is it at 2AM?

Where is a good place to park near The powwow?
Contact – http://www.baaits.org for more details.
I’m hoping to bring my friend who is disabled and cannot stand for long, is there any chance there will be seating for the public?
There should be, but contact the event organizers.
There is bleacher seating and a special seating in the closer disabled section
