The King of England commissioned John Bartram to come from England to their newly acquired Florida land to determine what was here in 1755. His 16-year-old son, William Bartram, accompanied him. Once arrived they met the King of Florida who also has a 16-year-old son, the Prince, Micco Chlucco. The 2 hit it off and became lifetime friends. They shared cultures and young Billy Bartram stayed here when his father went back to England. The two traveled much with the main trail in our area being what is Strickland Road now. Interlachen was a small Native trading community, but we believe that they probably stopped by, that Willaim Bartam and Micco Chlucco visited Interlachen.
Jim Sawgrass, Florida’s Native American leading state authority, portrays Mico Chlucco as a historical re-enactment actor. He does programs teaching Native Florida skills in Florida, Alabama and Georgia National Parks, pow wows and Native American events. Mico Chlucco will tell the Native American history of Florida in the morning on the Native Camp stage. Osceola, Milly Francis, Mico Chlucco and William Bartram will tell their stories in costume/character on the Native Camp Stage in the afternoon. Native Camp will have Native artist teaching Native skills, as hands on as possible.
We plan storyteller, flute music and art booths at the caboose area, speakers at Interlachen Hall. Dance area will be in the ballfield. Skills class in Jenkins Park and in the back of the ball field area and tennis court (under the big trees). Food tables at the caboose with art booths. Food trucks will be at the tennis court with demo art booths, next to the Native Camp
Tickets are $10 and includes all classes and speakers, a super deal. Under 14 is free and must accompanied by a parent for workshops and speakers. We expect a large turn out!
